Speech Language Therapy

Speech Language PathologySpeech-Language Pathologists provide assessment of the following neurological impairments, and offer individualized, patient-focused treatments in order to help you regain your abilities for understanding, speech, swallowing and thinking.

Conditions Commonly Treated Include:

  • Swallowing Disorders, or Dysphagia
    • Aspiration Pneumonia
    • Coughing, choking or gagging when eating or drinking
    • Difficulty chewing or moving food around in the mouth
    • Feeding tube
    • Fever, excessive throat clearing or wet/gurgly voice around meal times
    • Unexplained weight loss
    • Painful swallowing or a sensation of food stuck in the throat

  • Cognitive Deficits such as Memory, Attention or Problem Solving
    • Stroke
    • Concussion
    • Traumatic Brain Injury
    • Brain Injuries following surgical procedures: Tumor Resection and Treatment (i.e. Chemotherapy)
    • Progressive Neurologic Conditions (i.e. Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, Dementias)
    • Mild cognitive impairment
    • Depending on your specific needs, cognitive therapy may address difficulties in one or more of the following area:
    • Orientation - awareness of time, place, people or circumstances
    • Attention- focus and concentration, limiting distractions, alternating and divided task
    • Short Term Memory
    • Executive Functioning - Problem solving, reasoning, decision making and time management

  • Motor Speech Disorders, such as Dysarthria, Aphasia or Apraxia
    • Verbal Expression
    • Auditory/Visual Communication
