What is a seizure?
An epileptic seizure is an event of temporary, abnormal increase in activity in the brain and can result in many different types of symptoms such as loss of consciousness, abnormal movements, and inability to talk or control one’s movements. Seizures can look very different between different people. Some people might have rhythmic arm movement and still be able to talk, while others will black-out, fall to the floor, and have full body shaking. Other seizures may be impairment of awareness or a strange feeling only.
What is epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a condition where, for different reasons, a person tends to have unprovoked seizures. A person may have one seizure only, but still have epilepsy. Others may have seizures throughout their lives that are difficult to control, which also is epilepsy.
