PEACE OF MIND
No one ever said that growing older would be easy. In fact, sometimes we face numerous challenges and difficult changes as part of the aging process. All too often, we face repeated losses in our later years.
- Our loved ones
- Our own health and independence
- Our memory and concentration
It is a combination of these losses that can understandably prove to be overwhelming. Fortunately it is at these times that we are not alone. Senior Care is here to offer specialized support and peace of mind when you and your family need it most.
Senior Care is a unit within Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital that provides optimum psychiatric care. The center specializes in working with older adults so that each person is treated as a unique and valuable individual by staff and physicians sensitive to the distinctive needs of seniors.
WE CAN HELP
The key to understanding our treatment starts with our team of professionals selected for their compassion and experience with older adults and their families.
Our team consists of experts in the fields of Psychiatry, Nursing, Social Work, Nutrition, Medicine, and Physical and Recreational Therapy.
Our staff, much like a family, has learned to work closely together to meet the needs of our patients. Our high staff-to-patient ratio ensures patients receive a great deal of attention and promotes the optimum environment of comfort, safety, and security.
Depression & Anxiety Disorders
Senior Care has developed a special program designed for seniors suffering from depression and/or anxiety. These conditions are silent epidemics in our country today, and some studies suggest that at least one in five seniors is currently battling clinical depression.
Depression is not a sign of weakness. Families often feel frustrated because nothing they do seems to help. Professional treatment is necessary. Because treatment is highly effective, our staff can ease the pain of depression, relieve the symptoms, promote independence, and help make life worth living again.
Senior Care has developed a special program to treat individuals suffering from problems with memory. Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias occur in a greater number of people as more live to see an older age . While there is no cure there are medications that can slow the progressive decline. We utilize both medication and behavioral modification techniques to minimize behaviors that cause risks to the patient or the caregivers.
Our goal is to improve quality of life. We provide close supervision with a secure unit that ensures the safety and security of each individual. We strive to bring peace of mind and partner with the families of our patients to deliver hope, education, and resources.
