David McRay, MD, is a professor in the Department of Family Medicine of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and a member of the faculty of the UT-Nashville Family Medicine Residency Program in Murfreesboro, TN. Previously, he served as the Director of Maternal-Child Health in the Department of Family Medicine at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Prior to joining the faculty at JPS in 2008, Dr. McRay served as Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of Dayspring Family Health Center, a non-profit community health center providing comprehensive family medical care with special attention to the needs of the underserved in three rural counties in Tennessee and Kentucky.  During his nineteen years of service in the Appalachian mountains of east Tennessee, Dr. McRay provided the full-spectrum of family medical care, including surgical obstetrics.  His primary interests are women's health, global health, and medical ethics.

Dr. McRay received his B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University and his M.D. degree from Northwestern University in Chicago. He then completed a residency in Family Medicine at John Peter Smith Hospital, before returning to his home state of Tennessee to practice for nearly two decades. He is married and has three grown children.
